International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day In-Person / Online

International Literacy Day 2025 is commemorated under the global theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”. This celebration will take on a fresh and dynamic approach by spotlighting the multiple literacies needed to thrive in today’s world: Information Literacy, Digital Literacy, AI Literacy, and Reading Literacy.

In a time where the boundaries between human knowledge, digital tools, and artificial intelligence are increasingly blurred, literacy is no longer limited to the ability to read and write — it is the ability to find, evaluate, create, and ethically use information in multiple formats. The event will create a platform for robust dialogue, artistic expression, and knowledge-sharing to empower both students and communities. The programme will not only celebrate South Africa’s Heritage Month but also reflect on how these literacies intersect with cultural identity, heritage preservation, academic success, and responsible digital citizenship.
