Objectives of the workshop

  • To understand the fundamentals of Research Data Management.
  • Navigate the world of secondary data use for research.
  • To be able to apply POPIA principles in research projects.
  • To understand the complexities of collecting data via online platforms.
  • To understand future practices of research data management at the NWU

Learning outcomes

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the principles and best practices of Research Data Management with the research environment.
  • Explore key principles of sharing and accessing secondary data in research, including Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) and Data Transfer Agreements (DTAs).
  • Understand how to apply the POPIA code of conduct in the research environment.
  • Understand use of social media platforms when doing data collection (pros and cons)
  • Understand future practices of research data management at the NWU.
