RFID Tagging Training (LIBRARY STAFF ONLY) In-Person
Dear Library Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to an RFID Tagging Training session, as we are in the project's implementation phase. The session will be held on Wednesday, 4 June 2025, at the Potchefstroom campus (Besembos). This training is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and service delivery in our libraries.
What is RFID?
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology that uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to library materials (objects).
Key Features
- Automated Tracking: RFID enables quick and accurate tracking of library materials (e.g., books, DVDs, CDs) without manual scanning.
- Self-Service Stations: Patrons can check out and return items independently using RFID-enabled kiosks.
- Anti-Theft Detection: RFID tags act as security devices, triggering alarms if items are removed without proper checkout.
- Quick Searches: Staff and patrons can easily locate misplaced or missing items using handheld RFID readers.
- Seamless Compatibility: RFID systems integrate with existing Library Management Systems (LMS) for centralised data management.
Why is it important?
RFID significantly improves circulation processes, inventory management, and security. It also supports self-checkout, reduces manual workload for staff, and enhances the overall user experience.
Your participation will be highly valuable as we move forward with this exciting phase of our digital transformation.
