Kirstin Krauss Dr Kirstin Krauss will reflect on where ChatGPT can be helpful and considerations on how to remain ethical while supporting and writing postgraduate research projects.

 

Biography:

Dr Kirstin Krauss is a Research Advisor and partner of Worldwide Information Services (WWIS), where he facilitates Research Capacity Development workshops and services for the WWIS Academy. He is a visiting Researcher for STADIO Higher Education, where he develops and provides research support, mentoring, lecturing, and supervision support in their Master’s Doctoral programmes. Dr Krauss is also a Business Development Manager for Iontaofa Intelligence, based in Ireland.

Previously, as Professor at UNISA (2017-2022) and Associate Professor at Rhodes University (2012-2016), he focused predominantly on postgraduate student development and supervision capacity building. Dr Krauss's research focuses predominantly on ICT for Development, Critical Ethnography, Higher Education, and mitigating questionable scholarly practices. He has done editorial work for several journals and conferences. Dr Krauss has been invited and acknowledged by several associations and universities to do guest lectures and postgraduate research mentoring workshops, including the University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, University of the Free State, Ghana Technology University College, Central University of Technology (Free State), Milpark Education, STADIO Higher Education, Uganda Martyrs University in Kampala, and the Southern African Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (AISSAC).

Dr Krauss was recently nominated to serve on the advisory board for the South African National Library and Information Consortium (SANLiC) / Wiley Author Engagement Programme. In 2020, one of his Doctoral Graduates, Dr Nompilo Tshuma, was selected as a Highly Commended winner of the 2020 Emerald/HETL Outstanding Doctoral Research Award. Dr Krauss has managed grants and projects for Deloitte Consulting Pty Ltd – Africa Unit (2011), UNESCO (2009/10), KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health (2007/8), and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation (2014 – 2016). He is a member of the Association of Information Systems (AIS), he is an Advisory Board Member (Research) for Fidelior, a scholarly services organisation focusing on promoting quality scholarly communications, he is a member of the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR) Europa – Special Interest Group on Africa, and he served as Education Chair for the AIS Special Interest Group on Global Development (2015-17).
